Mark Ronson slid into Dua Lipa’s DMs so she could be on the ‘Barbie’ soundtrack – Billboard

Dua Lipa’s “Dance the Night” is officially out, and as with every great song, there’s an equally great story of how it happened.

In the case of “Dance the Night” – which was released as Greta Gerwig’s debut single barbie The film—and its associated soundtrack—Mark Ronson took a chance and went into Lipa’s Instagram DMs to bring the song to life.

“Hey! I’m going to sing barbie film with Margot Robbie as Barbie and Ryan Gosling as Kane,” Ronson wrote dua in a DM, according to a screenshot he shared after the track’s release. “It’s dir. by Greta Gerwig (little Women, ladybug) and it’s probably the funniest script I’ve ever read, like [redacted] funny. There’s a huge 60 person dance number with a full cast – I only have the track so far, as they started rehearsals, but if you’d consider co-writing and starring in that I’d love it . I honestly think the movie is going to be incredible.

He captioned the post, “It started with a DM. So excited that our song from this incredible film is finally out today. Song produced with my brothers in @wyattish and @picardbrothers and written with @carolineailin @barbiethemovie.

Ronson serves as executive producer for barbie soundtrack (title barbie the album, Nicki Minaj, Ice Spice, Lizzo, Charli XCX, Pinkpants, Ava Max, Fifty Fifty and more appear on the soundtrack, which will arrive on July 21 — the same day the movie hits theaters.
