Nick Jonas says his 2016 ACM performance with Kelsea Ballerini sent him to therapy. Let’s join in.
Nick Jonas:
“It was like a really traumatic moment that shaped the pressure I put on myself to be perfect and always be.”
Tetris Kelly:
The Jonas Brothers kicked off “The Armchair Expert With Dax Shepard” podcast on Monday, where Nick talked about the moment his guitar solo went horribly wrong during Kelsea Ballerini’s performance at the 2016 ACM Awards.
Nick Jonas:
“I started, all right. And as soon as I got to that, I just blanked out. And I hit a wrong note and basically blacked out and saw—”
Monica Padman: “Oh my god!”
Nick Jonas:
“…It was wrong. And I couldn’t stop. To this day, and like in the hours since I opened this, I really can’t figure out what really happened.
Tetris Kelly:
The moment happened right in the middle of the JoBros break as Nick did two solo projects and before the brothers reunited in 2019.
Nick Jonas:
“Looking back, I can laugh at how big I thought it was, but it traveled more than I intended. And it caused me to go into therapy.
Tetris Kelly:
And now we update you about those musicians who are winning in TV and movies as well. Halle Bailey showed us that wearing Ariel’s purple wings won’t just hit the big screen in 2023. Plus, The Weeknd, BLACKPINK’s Jennie, Troye Sivan, and more attend the premiere of HBO’s ‘The Idol’ in Cannes. And we’ll chat with the pop star.
Warner Bros. has unveiled a trailer for the big-screen musical adaptation of “The Color Purple” and it stars Halle Bailey and is joined by superstars HER, Fantasia, Ciara, Taraji P. Henson and more. The musical is set to hit the theaters on Christmas Day.
We’re all obsessing over the new show The Idol ahead of its premiere on June 4, but we’re even more obsessing over the stars’ red carpet looks at Cannes. Jenny killed it, delivering preppy reality. The Weeknd delivered classic Abel, while Lily-Rose Depp dazzled, and Troye Sivan was a fashion king as ever. We’ll be talking with Troy about the show, make sure you stay tuned.
Now coming to my interview with Davido. He is an Afrobeats superstar and he is also spreading the wealth.
Rania Aniftos:
You have the most first day streams of any African artist on Apple Music and Spotify. How does it feel to represent your country so successfully?
davido:
I mean, it was dope. We just made the album, you know, with the following criteria. We just wanted to go into the studio and make good music. Like we didn’t plug most of them in, you know what I’m saying? In the studio, you know, we’re like natural vibes, not pushing. You also know when choosing a record. You know, usually I choose the whole album myself or like I’m very, very sensitive. So I pick 17 songs out of choice, 68.
Rania Aniftos:
How do you choose such songs?
davido:
So we’ve kind of created this formula where I send songs for everyone to like, even my friends. So I was like everybody vote. And it worked.
Rania Aniftos:
What was the one song that was common on everyone’s list?
davido:
Definitely ‘unavailable’.
Rania Aniftos:
It is also good that you get a chance to work with other artists as well.
davido:
This is a girl I found on the internet, she was doing a cover of a song. And then I DM’ed him. I’m like, “Yo, your voice is amazing.”
Rania Aniftos:
Very good.
davido:
And she doesn’t even believe that I am talking to her.
Rania Aniftos:
And now he’s with you on a record-breaking album.
davido:
Yes, and I signed that too!
